Heald House Open Houses
The Heald House is open for visitors one Sunday afternoon
per month, 2:00 - 4:00 pm, most months. Come tour the collections,
visit the barn, meet old and new friends. It's free. 698 Concord Street. Special tours can also be arranged.

Plant Hunting
Tuesday, March 10, 2009- 7 to 9 p.m., Gleason Public Library Hollis Room. Historical explorations for interesting and useful plants – Presented by Nancy Hubert. (Joint program with Carlisle Garden Club).
Carlisle Garden Tour
Friday, June 12 and Saturday June 13, 2009 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - The Heald House groups are open to the public as part of the Carlisle Garden Club's Garden Tour.
Old Home Day
Saturday, June 27, 2009, Come to Carlisle's Old Home Day and see the Carlisle Historical Society Hearst in the parade and visit our booth! Also, come by the Heald house from 2-4 for open house.
Maple Sugaring in Carlisle
Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. - The Heald House. A demonstration by Bob and Peggy Hilton, George and Nadine Bishop, Kevin Brown and John Bakewell in the Barn. Also public
tours of Heald House. Refreshments served.
Annual Meeting and "Civil War Collection"
Thursday, December 3, 2009 – 7 p.m to 9 p.m.., Gleason Public Library Hollis Room. Annual Meeting for members. Then at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Paul Carpenter will give an update of his excellent talk on the Danner Civil War Collection with some of his recent findings.
Refreshments served.

Sunday, April 13, 2008, 2-3 p.m. Join local Carlisle beekeepers Ernie Huber, Katherine Endicott, and Leslie Thomas at the Heald House barn for a discussion of the craft and science of beekeeping. Historical beekeeping artifacts from the Historical Society’s collection will be on display. Bring your questions!

Scout Programs
The Historical Society offers Girl Scout badge programs. One is the
"Local Lore" badge for Junior Girl Scouts and the other
is "Listening to the Past" Brownie Try-it badge. The fee
is $5 per scout. Please contact Janet Hentschel for more information.
The Historical Society also offers a Cub Scout program. 3rd graders can
work toward the "The Past is Exciting and Important" achievement. The

2007 Programs
Changes to Flora and Fauna in the Concord-Carlisle Area from Thoreau's Time to Present
Concord naturalist, ornithologist and environmentalist Peter Alden will speak on Thursday, April 12,
at 7:30 p.m. at Union Hall, First Religious Society. Co-sponsored by the Carlisle Historical Society and the Friends of the Gleason Public Library, Alden's talk is
free and open to all. Refreshments will be served.
The Art and Science of Stoneknapping
Archaeologist and stoneknapper Craig Chartier will present a hands-on program on Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at Heald House,
698 Concord Street. He will discuss the history of stone tools, show different kinds of rocks and tools, and will compare old
tools with their present-day counterparts. Then everyone can try their hand at stoneknapping. Bring the family! $5 for Society
members, $8 non-members. The program will be followed by an Open House at Heald House and its barn.

Spinning
Saturday, September 9th A spinning demonstration by artisan Kerry Piette during our Open House at Heald House,
from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
An Antiques Appraisal Evening with Kerry Shrives of Skinner, Inc.
Thursday, October 25, 7:00PM (Doors open at 6:30) Carlisle Congregational Church (147 School Street ) Each participant is allowed to bring up to two items. Admission is $5 without an object, $15 for one object (includes admission),
and $10 for a second object. Please do not bring coins, stamps, jewelry or musical instruments. If you have a large or fragile item,
you may bring a good-quality photograph instead.
